MBC teams with AstraZeneca, Novartis on $1.4M cancer challenge
By Mass High Tech
The Massachusetts Biotechnology Council reports it is partnering with the American Cancer Society to create the MBC Cancer Research Challenge, a $1.4 million partnership among academia, nonprofits and corporations.
The goal of the challenge is to increase the amount of cancer research at local universities and research centers and ultimately to fund 100 percent of American Cancer Society top-ranked postdoctoral fellowships in New England.
Under the project, MBC member companies AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals LP and Novartis AG have agreed to each fund ten $140,000, three-year American Cancer Society Postdoctoral Fellowships. AstraZeneca has a cancer research facility in Waltham and operations located in Westborough. Novartis’ global research headquarters is in Cambridge.
Founded in 1985, the MBC represents more than 500 biotechnology companies, academic institutions and other life science-related organizations.
