Beth Israel uses newly launched Google Health

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) has announced its use of Google Health’s PatientSite, an online database of medical records launched today.

The health web portal will give patients access to their records, allowing them to share health information with doctors, update prescriptions and find doctor and specialist referrals, according to John Halamka, BIDMC’s chief information officer and a member of the Google Health Advisory Council.

About 1,000 doctors use PatientSite, along with 40,000 patients worldwide, according to Google.

BIDMC is a teaching and research hospital affiliated with Harvard Medical School.
