Zingku team behind Google's Friend Connect
Google Inc. whose newly announced product, Friend Connect, was developed by a local engineering team - is launching that service tomorrow, officials said.
Friend Connect helps developers of websites of all sizes offer social-networking features for their users, was developed by a Cambridge-based team that included product manager Mussie Shore, co-founder of Zingku Inc., a Waltham company that Google acquired last year. Zingku had been developing mobile social networking technology since 2005.
The Friend Connect news comes just days after Facebook and MySpace revealed similar online tools, called Facebook Connect and Data Availability, respectively. Last year, Google released OpenSocial, a tool for building social applications for various social networking sites like MySpace and LinkedIn.
The Friend Connect announcement also comes a day before Google hosts an open house of its new Cambridge facility, revealing to the public its 60,000-square-foot space at Five Cambridge Center in Kendall Square.
Previously, the company housed about 100 workers at the Cambridge Innovation Center, also in Kendall Square.
