Rhode Island biz plan names trio of winners
By Mass High Tech
Three teams of entrepreneurs have won the 2008 Rhode Island Business Plan Competition, splitting $170,000 in prize money.
MissingPatient.com, led by Timothy Holmgren of Westerly, won the entrepreneur track. The startup developed a platform for distributing information about missing persons with conditions like Alzheimer's disease, to medical professionals, police officers and private citizens.
Siren Medical, founded by Mark Drew, a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, won the student track. Siren is developing a low-cost technology intended to help save severed digits and limbs at the site of an accident and transport them to a hospital.
This year's competition also featured a high school track, won by David Litwin's D-Liteful Gaming. Litwin, a junior at The Wheeler School in Providence, is creating an online video game that mixes economics with sports.
