Maine's Telford lands $26M Army contract

Telford Aviation Inc. has landed a $26.4 million contract from the U.S. Army for multi-sensor airborne reconnaissance surveillance system support, according to the Department of Defense.
Under the contract, Bangor, Maine-based Telford will support the surveillance systems for nine months. Work on the deal will be performed in Iraq and Afghanistan and is expected to be completed by January 2009.
In the defense sector, Telford provides support for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance services as well as unmanned aerial systems. In addition to its defense work, Telford's customer list includes Saab Aircraft Leasing, Volvo Aero Services, Piedmont Airlines and Lufthansa Cityline.
Founded in 1982 as a charter plane operation, privately held Telford expanded into aircraft maintenance in the 1990s, according to the company.
