IBM to buy data software firm FilesX
IBM Corp. reports reaching an agreement to acquire storage software company FilesX Inc.
Newton-based FilesX will be integrated into Big Blue's Software Group as a part of its Tivoli division when the deal is completed. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
FilesX, which was founded in 2000, specializes in continuous data protection and "nearly instant" data and application recovery software for remote offices. The company claims more than 100 customers.
In 2003, the company closed on a $7.5 million Series C round of venture capital financing, increasing its total funding to $12 million.
Last year, FilesX signed a deal to supply the U.S. Department of State with data protection and recovery software for servers in U.S. embassies and other State Department facilities.
