High tech, clean energy councils team up on carbon reduction

The Massachusetts High Technology Council and the New England Clean Energy Council have started a new program to reduce local companies' carbon emissions.

MHTC said that, in addition to providing energy supply and traditional energy management solutions, the program will:

  • Benchmark a company's existing carbon footprint, identify targets for carbon reduction and implement strategies for carbon reduction;
  • Track progress on reducing carbon emissions and make those results available on the MHTC's website;
  • Provide participants with technical resources and a list of strategic resources, including electrical supply products, energy efficiency initiatives, renewable energy and clean technology options, and increased demand response opportunities; and
  • Create an active testing-ground for new innovations and strategies that could impact state and federal energy policy.

The MHTC is partnering on the program with Constellation NewEnergy Inc., SourceOne, EnerNOC Inc., National Grid and Nstar.

The MHTC is a technology company trade organization, located in Waltham. The New England Clean Energy Council, based in Cambridge, formed last year after a merger of the Clean Energy Council and the New England Energy Innovation Collaborative. That organization is dedicated to developing a clean energy cluster in the state.
