PerkinElmer puts an R&D center in Singapore
PerkinElmer Inc. has opened a facility in Singapore, officials at the Waltham health sciences and photonics company reported.
The PerkinElmer Inc. Center of Excellence is expected to house R&D efforts in drug discovery and development, environmental monitoring, food safety and sustainable energy.
PerkinElmer (NYSE: PKI) said the facility will manufacture instruments for atomic absorption spectroscopy and UV/visable spectroscopy to detect both inorganic and organic materials in the environment, food, materials and oil industries. The facility will also be used for R&D related to the expansion of PerkinElmer's food and consumer product safety, water quality and sustainable energy development project, EcoAnalytix.
Officials at PerkinElmer said that the Asia-Pacific region represents a key growth area for the company.
In January, PerkinElmer's board named its former CFO Robert Friel as its new CEO.
PerkinElmer employs about 9,100 people, and reported a 2007 net income of $131.7 million on revenue of $1.8 billion.
