Schilling's 38 Studios hires Comcast vet MacLean

38 Studios LLC, Curt Schilling's other workplace when he is away from the Red Sox, has named a former Comcast Corp. gaming executive as its vice president of business development.

Jennifer MacLean was general manager of games at Comcast, responsible for signing partnerships with such companies as Electronic Arts, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, Fox Sports, Real Networks, Oberon Media, and Microsoft Corp., according to Maynard-based 38 Studios.

MacLean spearheaded products for Philadelphia-based Comcast including its multiplatform casual-games product line known as Chill, the company's video game news and content aggregator site GameInvasion.net, as well as Comcast's video-on-demand offering, In addition, MacLean is the chair of the board of directors of the International Game Developer's Association.

Prior to Comcast, MacLean was programming director for AOL Games. She began her career in the video game industry at Microprose Software.

Last month, 38 Studios signed an agreement with Australia's BigWorld Pty Ltd. to license its BigWorld Technology Suite to help develop the company's upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

38 Studios was founded in 2006 as Green Monster Games, by Schilling, who is an avid gamer. The company is in preproduction on an original fantasy game and product line featuring the work of Todd McFarlane, the creator of "Spawn," and R.A. Salvatore, a well-known fantasy author from Massachusetts.
