BTU opens solar cell Center of Excellence in China

BTU International Inc. reports it has opened its new Center of Excellence for Photovoltaics Process Technology in Shanghai, China.

A maker of thermal processing equipment for the alternative energy and electronics manufacturing markets, BTU (Nasdaq: BTUI) opened the first of two new process technology facilities, as part of its focus on the alternative energy market, officials said.

This first Center of Excellence for Photovoltaics Process Technology is located within BTU's Shanghai manufacturing plant, and is staffed by BTU process engineers with expertise in in-line processing for photovoltaics.

Based in North Billerica, BTU employs about 350 workers. For 2007, BTU reported a profit of $1.9 million on revenue of $63.7 million.
