Teragram picked up by SAS Institute

Teragram Corp. reports that it has been purchased for an undisclosed amount by a North Carolina-based software company.

SAS Institute Inc., a developer of business intelligence and advanced analytics, purchased Teragram, a Cambridge company that develops software-enabling computers to interpret everyday language, officials said.

Teragram will operate as a division of SAS. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, officials said.

Teragram employs 40 workers. Customers include CNN, Forbes.com, the World Bank and Yahoo Inc., according to officials.

SAS officials say the Teragram technology can combine with its own statistics-based software. SAS, based in Cary, N.C., was founded in 1976 and employs more than 10,000 workers.
