WBZ-TV to share news, revenue with local bloggers
Boston television station WBZ-TV has launched an advertising network that will act as a revenue-sharing partnership between the station and local bloggers and other social-media websites.
Known as the WBZ-TV Local Ad Network, the project is one of six by CBS Corp.-owned stations placing local news "widgets" on the sites of blogs and hyperlocal sites in each region's home markets, according to station officials.
The widgets will show local headlines and images with links to video and text stories on the TV station's site, and will be accompanied by a banner ad.
Owners of the local sites will receive a portion of the advertising revenue generated by WBZ-TV in exchange for placing the widgets on their sites. Specific details of the percentages local sites will receive were not released, but WBZ-TV will be responsible for selling the ad inside each widget, according to officials.
WBZ-TV says the program already includes the sites redsoxnation.net and www.bostonmusicspotlight.com,
