Army gives General Dynamics unit $18M for radio systems

General Dynamics Information Technology Inc. has been awarded an $18.3 million contract from the U.S. Army for high frequency radio systems and services, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The contract also calls for the Needham-based company to upgrade eight existing sites and providing five new sites for the Army.

The Army's CECOM Acquisition Center at Fort Monmouth, N.J., awarded the contract, which is expected to be completed by March 29, 2009.

General Dynamics Information Technology is a business unit of General Dynamics Corp., which is headquartered in Falls Church, Va. There are five General Dynamics business units operating in New England, including Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. The company employs 83,000 people worldwide and reported a 2006 profit of $2.6 billion on revenue of $24.1 billion.
