Schilling's 38 Studios licenses BigWorld game tech
The gaming company founded by Red Sox injured pitcher Curt Schilling, 38 Studios LLC, reports signing an agreement with BigWorld Pty Ltd. to license its BigWorld Technology Suite to help develop the Maynard-based company's upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game.
The licensed development suite from Australia's BigWorld would provide 38 Studios with the tools and technologies to support the creation of "Copernicus," the code name being used by 38 Studios for its first product. The game is scheduled for release in late 2010.
No financial details of the licensing agreement were released.
The BigWorld Technology Suite is comprised of the BigWorld Server Software, Content Creation Pipeline, 3D Client Engine Package, and Live Management Tools and Instrumentation.
38 Studios was founded in 2006 as Green Monster Games, by Schilling, an avid gamer. The company is in preproduction on an original fantasy game and product line featuring the work of Todd McFarlane, the creator of "Spawn," and R.A. Salvatore, a well-known fantasy author from Massachusetts.
