Caliper license deal ends AntiCancer patent suit

Caliper Life Sciences Inc. reports it has ended patent litigation between the scientific research products firm and AntiCancer Inc. via a cross-licensing deal.

The deal enables Hopkinton-based Caliper (Nasdaq: CALP) to sublicense fluorescent protein optical imaging technology belonging to AntiCancer to third parties, while allowing AntiCancer to sublicense Caliper's optical imaging patents to other entities, for use in the field of fluorescent protein imaging.

The deal calls for AntiCancer, a San Diego life sciences company, and Caliper to share revenue from the licenses to third parties. No other payments would be made in connection with the agreement, according to the life sciences firms.

Caliper, which provides instruments, reagents and software for life sciences research, reported a 2007 net loss of $24.1 million on revenue of $140.7 million. The life sciences firm employs 550 workers.
