Mocospace calls up $4M in second round
Boston-based mobile social networking startup MocoSpace, the working name of JNJ Mobile Inc., has closed a $4 million Series B round of funding, according to the company.
The new funding brings the company's total to $7 million since it was launched last year. Investors in the company include Cambridge-based General Catalyst, New York's Pilot Group and former eBay executive Michael Dearing.
Mocospace is looking to combine social networking, the mobile Internet and mobile advertising in one off-deck mobile destination. The network boasts 2 million members and 1 billion page views per month.
Last fall, Mocospace cut a deal with Island Def Jam Music to link the record label's artists to the social network's user base.
The company was founded by CEO Justin Siegel and CTO Jamie Hall, both former executives of New York-based mobile game developer SkyZone Entertainment Inc., an independent company spun out of Korean mobile carrier SK Group in 2003.
