Sedo takes stake in Italian web domain firm

Sedo.com LLC reports it has made a minority investment in DomainsBot, an Italian Internet domain name search company.

Cambridge-based Sedo, a broker of domain names and websites, did not disclose the amount invested in DomainsBot but said DomainsBot management plans to continue to operate from the company's headquarters in Rome.

Sedo does not plan to take a board seat at DomainsBot and will not have a management role, officials said.

DomainsBot, founded in 1999, is working to expand its domain name technologies, including multilanguage name suggestion, domain search technology and domain analysis systems, officials said.

Sedo, which stands for Search Engine for Domain Offers, was founded in 2000, and is majority-owned by AdLINK Group, part of German United Internet AG.

In June 2007, Sedo.com bought the domain name broker website GreatDomains from VeriSign Inc. for an undisclosed amount.
