Hologic sues Calif.'s SenoRx over anti-cancer tech

Bedford medical technology firm Hologic Inc. has sued competitor SenoRx Inc. for patent infringement, SenoRx reports.

Hologic and its Cytyc Corp. unit allege that Aliso Viejo, Calif.-based SenoRx has violated Hologic's patents on brachytherapy technology and seek unspecified damages and a court order to prevent SenoRx from further infringement, according to SenoRx.

Brachytherapy is a form of radiation treatment where radioactive "seeds" are placed in cancerous tissue, according to the American Brachytherapy Society. SenoRx said it had reviewed the claims made by Hologic and plans to "vigorously defend itself." The lawsuit has been filed in a U.S. District Court in northern California.

Hologic, a provider of medical technology for women's health, reported net income of $94.6 million on revenue of $738.4 million in its fiscal 2007, which ended Sept. 29. The company employs 3,580 workers.
