Acinion has $16M funding, new name

Acton-based Acinion Inc., a maker of Internet video storage and delivery equipment, reports it has landed a new round of funding and relaunched itself as Blackwave Inc.

The company's funding, its second round, adds $16 million to its coffers and brings its total amount raised to more than $21 million since its founding in 2006. The round was led by Sigma Partners and included previous investors Globespan Capital Partners and IDG Ventures Boston. All three venture firms are based in Boston.

The funding will be used to help bring the company's Internet video infrastructure products to market, as well as expand its engineering, marketing and sales teams. Executives expect to begin rolling out its products in the first quarter of 2008.

The company will remain located in Acton, officials said.
