Raytheon reels in robotics firm

Raytheon Co. has acquired a Utah-based robotics company.

The Waltham defense contractor has bought Sarcos Inc., a Salt Lake City company that researches and develops micro-electromechanical systems.

Sarcos will be part of Raytheon's Tewksbury-based Integrated Defense Systems unit, according to Sarcos CEO Stephen Jacobsen.

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

In other news, Raytheon's IDS division won two contracts totaling $72 million from the U.S. Navy last week -- one for repairs and maintenance on the Navy's AEGIS missile guidance system and the other for electronics engineering on the Navy's newest amphibious warship.

Raytheon, which employs 80,000 people, reported a 2006 profit of $3.7 billion on revenue of $20.2 billion.
