BioTrove inks two licensing deals
BioTrove Inc., a maker of life sciences research products, has struck a pair of licensing deals with a California company.
Applied Biosystems, of Foster City, Calif., plans to customize its "TaqMan" genotyping tests for BioTrove's "OpenArray" genomic research platform. The combined technologies are expected to provide a more accurate and affordable means to perform genotyping studies than alternative methods, the companies report.
Also, BioTrove has licensed patents from Applied Biosystems for real-time thermal cyclers, microfluidics, and data analysis. That deal enables BioTrove to manufacture and develop products with the Applied Biosystems technology for its OpenArray platform, according to the firms.
Applied Biosystems maintains operations locally in Framingham, Bedford and Beverly.
Last month, Agilent Technologies Inc., of Santa Clara, Calif., said it would co-market its "6410 Triple Quadrupole" mass spectrometer with BioTrove's "RapidFire" high-throughput sample preparation system. The combined systems were expected to expedite lab tests used in drug research.
BioTrove is a privately held firm that offers two technology platforms, including the RapidFire systems and its OpenArray tools used in genomic research for science-related industries.
