Bit9 brings in $10M venture funding round

A security software company in Cambridge has corralled $10 million in its third round of equity investment.

Bit9 Inc. has raised $10 million in a third round of venture capital funding, bringing the company's total VC funding to $25.8 million.

Leading the round was .406 Ventures, with participation from existing investors Kleiner, Perkins Caufield & Byers; Atlas Venture; and Highland Capital Partners. In addition to Bit9's venture funding, the company has received an additional $2 million from by a federal grant from the National Institute of Standards and Practices in 2003.

Bit9 also rolled out a revamped version of its parity application control and device control software. The company also offers the Bit9 Knowledgebase, which it calls the largest collection of actionable intelligence about the world's software, including commercial applications, open-source software, drivers, libraries, and malware.

Privately held Bit9 was founded in 2002.
