Mercury spins out life sciences subsidiary

Mercury Computer Systems Inc. has formed a wholly owned subsidiary called Visage Imaging to focus its life sciences and medical business, company officials report.

Executives of the Chelmsford-based company say the independent entity would better market its portfolio of imaging and visualization software products and services.

While the new unit has a presence in Chelmsford and offices in Berlin and Fuerth, Germany, Visage's U.S. headquarters are in Carlsbad, Calif.

Mercury, which has been in the medical imaging business for approximately 20 years, reported a 2006 net loss of $16.2 million on revenue of $236.1 million. The company employs 836 workers.
