Vela Systems grabs $6M in Series A
Somerville-based Vela Systems reports that it has completed a $6 million Series A round of funding.
Commonwealth Capital Ventures, a Waltham venture capital firm, and GrandBanks Capital, a Newton Center-based VC firm, co-led the round and were joined by existing angel investors CommonAngels in Lexington and Boston's Launchpad Venture Group, and individual investors, officials said.
Vela Systems, a developer of mobile software that streamlines field administration for the architecture, engineering and construction industries, will use the funds for a national sales campaign, launch channel partner program and expand internationally, company officials said.
As part of the funding, Commonwealth Capital Ventures general partner Elliot Katzman and GrandBanks Capital general partner Ryan Moore joined Vela Systems' board of directors.
In 2006, Vela Systems raised a $1.4 million seed round of angel funding.
The company, founded in 2005, uses technology developed at the MIT Center for Real Estate and the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
