Gerber Scientific grabs Data Tech for $6.2M

Gerber Scientific Inc., a supplier of automated manufacturing tools based in South Windsor, Conn., has acquired cutting-machine maker Data Technology Inc. for $6.2 million in cash, officials report.

Data Technology, a privately held firm based in Wilmington, reported revenue of nearly $10 million last year, Gerber said. The buyer noted it expects revenue from Data Technology to be accretive to earnings in its current fiscal year, which began May 1.

David Buckley, CEO of Data Technology, said the buyout enables his company's sales to benefit from Gerber's global distribution network. It is unclear whether Data Technology would continue to operate in Wilmington.

With 2,250 workers, Gerber reported a 2006 profit of $2.6 million on revenue of $530.4 million. The firm operates four businesses, including Gerber Scientific Products, Spandex Ltd., Gerber Technology, and Gerber Coburn.
