Mintera ships first overseas product
Mintera Corp. of Acton, a maker of optical-networking equipment for 40 gigabits per second (Gbps) and higher transport, has made its first shipment overseas.
The company's flagship 40 Gbps DWDM transport subsystem will be used by an Asia-Pacific systems company, though a company statement did not provide more details.
The announcement comes as part of a growing international trend in the optical-networking industry. According to a report by research firm Ovum-RHK, optical network equipment spending in North America dropped below the $1 billion mark in the last quarter of 2006 for the first time in three quarters, while at the same time, spending in other areas, particularly Asia, continued to increase.
Mintera has raised more than $54 million in private funding since its inception in 2000, including a $10 million round last October. The company is funded by a syndicate of investors, including Polaris Venture Partners, RRE Ventures and Portview Communications Partners.
