Lionbridge lands deal to interpret for the Irish courts

Waltham-based Lionbridge Technologies Inc. has received a $2.5 million, four-year contract to provide onsite interpreters for the Courts Services of Ireland.

Lionbridge will provide interpreters for court-based interpretation services including the interpretation of sworn testimony by defendants and witnesses, submissions by lawyers, and judges' rulings, and will support as many as 200 languages, company officials said.

The Courts Service was established in 2001 to manage the courts and provide services to and for the judges, and to provide other services relating to courts administration. In 2003, the Lionbridge interpretation division received its first contract with Ireland's Department of Justice, which is the single largest purchaser of interpretation services in Ireland.

Lionbridge, a software and Internet globalization company founded in 1996, employs nearly 4,000 workers.
