Chitika gets into the blog advertising space with contextual service

Send this story to a friend

Chitika Inc., a Shrewsbury-based contextual advertising services provider, has launched BlogContext, a software product that allows bloggers to place context-specific ads on their blog sites.

BlogContext selects the most relevant ad for the content from the more than 500,000 ads in Chitika's network, and adapts as the content of the blog changes, ensuring timely and related advertising. The ads are displayed to the user regardless of how the blog content is being viewed.

"Bloggers publish their content on their website, but they also receive a large percentage of their viewership through feed technologies such as RSS or Atom - and this number is increasing. The unique value that BlogContext brings is that the contextual text-based ads are also distributed as a part of these feeds, significantly increasing revenue potential," said Alden DoRosario, co-founder and CTO for Chitika, in a statement.

Chitika was founded by a handful of former Terra Lycos software engineers. The company has signed deals with 10 advertising networks, including FindWhat.com, ePilot, Commission Junction, Enhance Interactive and Espotting.
