Boston Scientific stock drops on heart device recall
Boston Scientific Corp. stock dropped more than 11 percent, after it announced it would temporarily halt shipments and recall inventory of several brands of implantable heart defibrillators because parts of the manufacturing process have not been approved by the U.S. FDA.

Northeastern professor lands NIH grants for nanotech drug delivery

Digital Brand Connections LLC, a Connecticut company founded earlier this year by former Clear Channel Communications Inc. executives, has raised a $550,000 angel round to build proprietary digital media players for well-known brands to stream rich media to their customers and fans.

Ky. software startup Backupify moving to Boston

UMass doles out $200K in research grants
The University of Massachusetts reports it has granted $200,000 to researchers at its Amherst, Lowell and Worcester campuses. UMass’ Commercial Ventures and Intellectual Property Technology Development Fund distributed the grants to researchers in life sciences, polymer chemistry, computer science and engineering.

Boston World Partnerships pumped 200 new jobs into city
Boston World Partnerships celebrated its one year anniversary last night at the Liberty Hotel, releasing data showing that it is responsible for creating 200 new jobs in Boston and retaining 115 jobs, resulting in an economic impact of $38 million in statewide spending.

Biotech, drug R&D grew in 2009
Research and development investment by pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies defied the recession in 2009, growing by more than 2 percent over the 2008 total.
