UMass Lowell awarded $1M life sciences grants

University of Massachusetts Lowell was awarded more than $1 million in a pair of grants from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. The grants are to be used for the hiring of additional faculty and for life sciences research.

EPA orders Presstek to pay fine, help schools

Presstek Inc. has agreed to pay $31,000 in fines and to volunteer on curriculum-building with local public schools in response to federal environmental violations related to a chemical spill at one of its Massachusetts manufacturing facilities in 2006.

Salient Surgical Tech withdraws $86M IPO

Medical device company Salient Surgical Technologies Inc., formerly known as Tissuelink Medical Inc., has withdrawn its registration for an initial public offering, intended to raise about $86 million, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Researchers at Harvard University have found a technique to develop the pancreatic cells of mice to produce insulin, which could one day aid people with diabetes.
