Dataupia reportedly seeking asset buyer

Just two months after the company cut its staff levels by more than 50 percent, data-warehousing appliance company Dataupia Inc. is seeking to sell its assets, according to an online report.

Bledsoe’s investment firm backs water tech company

Former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe’s investment firm has invested $10 million in a Florida water purification technology company. Bledsoe Capital Group, founded in 2007 by the 14-year NFL veteran and Montana attorney Chad Wold, will receive a 33 percent stake in Ecosphere Energy Services LLC, a subsidiary of Stuart, Fla., water engineering and services firm Ecosphere Technologies Inc.

Allston plant woes drop Genzyme’s profit outlook

As a result of dumping the unfinished batches of Cerezyme, Genzyme will have to take an $8.4 million write-off in addition to the $14.2 million already announced.

The company focuses its software development on crowdsourcing — reliance on customers and users to create the software and services to fit company needs. Imaginatik’s Idea Central system maps how human networks work, from idea generation to implementation. The system is aimed at helping companies reduce costs, create new products and work more sustainably.

Clinical Data’s Q2 revenue jumps with genetic test sales

The Newton-based biotechnology and diagnostics company reported first quarter revenues for its fiscal year, which begins April 1, of $3.7 million, up from $2 million for the first quarter of 2008. The company’s year-on-year net loss ticked up slightly, to $15.4 million from $4.9 million. The company attributes the wider loss to increased research and development spending, which was $11.5 million in the company’s first quarter of this year, up from $7.6 million for the corresponding period last year.

Nexamp completes largest solar array on Cape Cod

The 57-kilowatt array consists of 276 solar panels on top of the marina’s 20,000 square foot boat storage facility. The company estimates the solar array could power seven homes and will pay for itself in less than five years.

EMD Serono teams with Texas cancer center

According to a release from the Rockland firm, EMD Serono has not yet decided which of its oncology treatments it will aim for Phase 1 clinical trials through the collaboration, but the company said patient enrollment for the trial would begin this year.

Northeast Utilities seeks stimulus funds for smart grid

The smart grid project, Northeast Utilities (NYSE: NU) officials said in a press release, would provide 500 jobs, offer fewer electric service interruptions and give customers more control of their energy usage by providing detailed use coverage and cost information. 

PackBot deal nets iRobot $13.5M

Under the deal, any branch of the military could order up to the full $13.5 million in PackBot Man Transportable Robot Systems (MTRS), parts, accessories, add-ons, configuration management, training and repair services. The Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) in Indian Head, Md., contracted iRobot. Work on the contract is expected to be completed by 2010. The Packbot MTRS is customized for NAVSEA and is modeled after the battle-tested iRobot PackBot 500 with EOD Kit.

Tissue-growing InCytu ups latest round to $3.25M

The Lincoln, R.I.-based startup is focused on growing new blood vessels, ligaments and hard tissue. It is planning on applications in the areas of oral care and the healing of diabetic foot ulcers.
