Cape Wind energy cost may dip with agreement

The electricity from the Cape Wind project would cost about 10 percent less than previously planned under an agreement reached in principal with the state attorney general’s office.

SiGe Semiconductor files for $143M IPO

In yet another sign that the hardware market has recovered from the recent tough recession, Andover-based fabless semiconductor maker SiGe Semiconductor Inc. has filed for an initial public offering, hoping to raise $143.75 million from the public markets.

Charles River pulls plug on $1.6B buy of WuXi

Charles River Laboratories International Inc. has called off its planned $1.6 billion purchase of Chinese research firm WuXi PharmaTech (Cayman) Inc. The board of Wilmington-based Charles River Labs has instead authorized the company to buy back up to $500 million of its own stock.

Babson and Business Innovation Factory launch lab

Babson College in Wellesley has partnered with entrepreneur Saul Kaplan’s Business Innovation Factory in Providence, R.I., to launch an Entrepreneur Experience Laboratory designed to accelerate development of entrepreneur support solutions.

FAA puts $2.5M into geothermal plant at Portland Jetport

Maine’s largest geothermal installation began this week at the Portland International Jetport, funded through a $2.5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

    Now that the oil has stopped, enter — the lawyers

    With each development in the saga of the BP Deepwater Horizons saga — death on the drilling platform, oil spreading throughout the Gulf of Mexico, fisheries shutdowns and costly cleanup efforts — new doors opened for attorneys and complex legal cases, including class action suits. At least 125 federal suits since April have named BP as a defendant, in Louisiana alone.

    Each year, Mass High Tech honors the New England tech industry’s pioneers and leaders from such sectors as: Advanced Energy, Biotech, Electronics, Hardware, Internet, Medical Devices, Software and Telecommunications.
